IPS East County is committed to reducing the economic and societal toll exacted by drugs and alcohol within communities. We focus on balancing the interests of businesses with those of residents. We work to influence the social, political, cultural, legal, and physical conditions that contribute to alcohol- and drug-related harms. We place an emphasis on protecting youth by reducing availability, access, and risk.

East County Youth Coalition

The East County Youth Coalition (ECYC) was founded in 2003 by the Institute for Public Strategies when high school students in San Diego’s East County wanted to make a change in their community.

Liquor store assessments in Casa de Oro indicated a serious lack of compliance with state retail operating standards for alcohol retailers, an over-concentration of alcohol outlets, and the perception that the community was unsafe.
