Media Advocacy

IPS East County implements high-profile, comprehensive, strategic media campaigns to promote policies that prevent harms stemming from alcohol and other drugs, including alcohol, marijuana, methamphetamine and opioids. Our campaigns connect the dots between substance use and secondary effects such as adverse childhood experiences, suicide, and sexual assault.

IPS East County trains community groups, individuals and organizations to place a spotlight on inequitable community conditions that impact public health and safety and build support with elected officials for systems-based solutions. Utilizing traditional and digital communications platforms, our media events, news releases, opinion editorials and letters to the editor reach target audiences despite an ultra-competitive media landscape. As technology continually changes the ways we communicate, our media advocacy strategies and tools evolve to meet those changes.

Fentanyl is odorless, tasteless, and often unknowingly mixed with other drugs which leads to accidental overdoses. Naloxone is a medication that can be administered to temporarily reverse an opioid overdose. Visit www.sdpdatf.org for more information on fentanyl, overdoses, and how you can use naloxone to save a life. #IPSEastCounty #partnersinchange #ipsequity #publichealth #substanceuseprevention

American Indian and Alaskan Native communities have some of the highest rates of substance misuse and addiction in the United States. When seeking treatment, cultural and tribal community context needs to be reflected. Conventional non-Native treatment may provide temporary relief but if Native culture identity and community context are not understood, it likely may not lead to lasting, positive life changes. Read more to understand the importance of incorporating culture into Substance Use treatment within these communities in this month's East County Magazine article "Advancing Healthy Communities: Culture is Key When Addressing Substance Use Disorders in Tribal Communities." below: ...
